Community Outreaches
Nursing Home Outreach
Visits nursing homes on a monthly basis
We are currently involved with 3 nursing homes in the Kansas City area.
Once a month, members of Heart of God Fellowship go and minister in song and bring
a short message. The ministry is led by Dan T. The folks love to sing, especially
the "old standards" of the church, and because in many cases there are no actual
church services in these facilities, they eat up the Word. Most of all, there are
the hugs. Lots of hugs. The nursing home minister takes care of the nursing home
ministry. He's always looking for people with a heart for the elderly to come along
and sing, visit, or give out hugs. Our nursing home minister was raised in Independence
but lived in Colorado Springs for a short time, as well as Brookfield, MO. He has
also been privileged to be on the mission field ministering to the Native Americans
of Southwest Arizona and California. He has been married for over 20 years, and
they have 2 grown children and 1 grandson. His favorite verses are Romans 8:28,
38-39 and Phillipians 4:13.
Biker Ministry
Visits various motorcycle events around the KC area
There is a subculture of
people living on the edge of society divided into several groups: one of the most
recognizable groups is the biker community. Our motorcycle outreach ministry has
a goal; to reach deep into that community and inject the love and forgiveness of
Jesus Christ into as many as can accept it. This can take long periods and personal
investments of time and relationship on the part of our ministers in order to establish
the trust and relationship it takes to reach these folks. Our ministers, through
the direction and grace of God, go "the extra mile" in proving the unconditional
love of Jesus to that community, as well as the street gangs and that part of the
subculture. This ministry is "home missions" at it's grittiest. Our guys and gals
go into the prisons, rallies, streets, and one on one with whoever will listen and
share the Gospel until it makes it's way through the pain of this life. Each year
we have a special time of reaching out specifically to bikers during a Sunday morning
service. Biker Sunday is one of our most anticipated events of the year.
Recovery Group
Meets on Monday and Friday evenings in Buckner
AA meets at our Buckner location on Monday and Friday evenings at 6:30pm. Our Recovery
Program is based on the book "Power to Choose". Anyone with ANY kind of addiction
is welcome. Privacy is protected. God accepts each one of us right where we are
when we call upon Him, even in the midst of our addiction. We assemble in a closed
meeting where we can freely share what God is doing in our life. Only those who
have actively joined the group are allowed to attend, following the requirement
that "what you hear and who you see stays in the meeting". This is absolutely necessary
to the success of the meetings. Recovery is a work in progress, one day, and even
one hour at a time. When we ask Jesus to come into our life and forgive us of our
sins that is exactly what He does. Therefore, sharing anyone's past is not important,
what is important is that we continue to build our relationship with Jesus and with
others. If you are ready to find out how others are living a clean and sober life,
we welcome you to join us. Call the Buckner location at 816-650-WORD, and we will
put you in touch with the right people to get you on the road to recovery and victorious
living.
